Goal: Create a 5 minute video that tells a story.
My senior video project was created over a 2 week period. There are many things I would change if I was to recreate this project, use of better equipment, better audio recordings as well as shortening the video. I am including it in my portfolio to showcase my storytelling capabilities. The goal of this video was to take the viewer on a journey of the life of a county animal shelter worker. Their feelings about the animals they care for, the community support they have as well as the joy they, and the animals, feel when an animal goes home. County run animal shelters often get a bad name and it was my goal to educate the public on what it means to work there and show the positive outcome of adopting an animal from a county shelter.
The video starts off with a human perspective of walking down the shelter hall, looking at different animals. There is a voice over of how animals come to QC PAWS and how they handle intake of animals. While the voice over continues the viewer is looking at other animals that may need adopted. The video then highlights volunteer events and the support of the community. Ways to prevent pet overpopulation as well as how to prevent your animal from being in a shelter are also highlighted.
At 3:00 the video transitions to a low angle shot that to give the feeling of a dog walking through the shelter, heading home. This was taken in the same hall as the view first walked down in the beginning of the video but from a dogs perspective. The song transitions with a small slide show and video images of pets waiting for adoptions and pets that have gone home. Adoption hours are given to encourage people to come to the shelter to adopt. The video closes with a very satisfying and positive video scenes of pets in the home being loved. Ending on a positive note was very important to me, I wanted the viewer to feel encouragement instead of guilt to go to the county shelter and adopt a pet.
